Ferguson Protests in Seattle

A grand jury decision to not indict Officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown came down at 6:00 PM Pacific time on Monday night. The reaction reverberated throughout the nation with protests happening in several cities including Seattle.

A large group of protesters had already gathered at Westlake when the decision was announced. Though initially starting off peaceful, it grew and got rowdier over the next several hours.

KOMO News reported that some protesters threw can foods and fireworks and one even threw a knife. In return, SPD reacted with pepper spray and percussion grenades. At one point, protesters made it onto I-5 causing a shutdown of the highway and SPD worked with the state patrol to regain the freeway.

As the protests flowed through the streets of Seattle, disrupting traffic and clashing with both SPD and WSP, Phoenix Jones bided his time.

After midnight, Phoenix Jones posted that he was preparing to go out there alongside fellow superhero Shade. Apparently, seeing vandalism committed moved him to action.

Twitter prep

Within an hour of posting his intent to patrol, he had some feedback for the public.

Twitter Monday report

Phoenix Jones reported via twitter that it was a peaceful protest, however there were expletives shouted. He also reported there was a shooting. Not sure how a shooting factors into a peaceful protest.

The SPD Blotter reported a slightly different account. The Blotter described individuals within the crowds throwing bottles and rocks at officers. There was property damage and vandalism consisting of spray painting and broken glass. By 1:00 AM on Tuesday morning, 5 people had been arrested.

I have not been able to obtain any corroborating evidence or reports of any shooting that night in Seattle.  One man was arrested on weapons charges, but I haven’t found any credible reports on any actual shooting that night.

Phoenix Jones also reported that Ghost was possibly out in plain clothes. Omega was apparently on patrol down in Tacoma.

The protests have continued throughout the week.

On Tuesday, a protest that started with UW students blocked traffic, but was overall fairly peaceful.  Friday protests brought a disruption to the downtown Christmas tree-lighting and caused Westlake Center mall to shut down several hours early.

Saturday night brought out yet another protest, so that meant another night of superheroes.

This protest proved to be the most violent and seemingly the least related to the Ferguson decision. An officer was injured when someone threw a rock through the window of the SPD vehicle the officer was driving.

Phoenix Jones along with Omega, Midnight Jack, and Ghost convened along with the protest on Capitol Hill. Omega said they came across intel that anarchists were planning to cause trouble. If any group has become an arch-nemesis to Seattle superheroes, it’s anarchists.

The superhero quartet gathered at 9:30 PM in an attempt to get ahead of the group that was to meet at 10:00 PM. Omega counted at least 100 protestors, several in various masks and even helmets.

The superheroes trailed beside the protest group, helping with obstacles that some of the protesters disturbed. Occasionally, protesters would throw “junk” at the superheroes, but no rocks or anything the injured them.

Omega also handed out hand-warmers to homeless people he encountered during the cold night.

SPD had a decent presence, but Phoenix did not seem pleased with SPD’s response to the unruly protesters.

twitterPJnolikeSPD

Towards the end of the night, the protest group broke up in smaller groups and eventually dispersed.  By the end of the night, protesters had broken a plate glass window at the Ferrari dealership at 12th and Union. SPD had difficulty finding specific individuals though they did monitor the crowds as best they could.

The superheroes then drove around afterwards, but the cold seem to keep the streets fairly cleared.

It is unclear what if any protests will continue later on.

ECHO versus the Anarchists on Veterans’ Day

Though superhero patrols are usually relegated to the hours of darkness, this past Veterans’ Day brought out a number of superheroes out into the light.

Members of the Emerald City Heroes Organization (ECHO) had heard some intel of potential anarchist activity to occur on Veterans’ Day. Superheroes in Seattle have quite the colorful history with anarchist types. El Caballero especially has had more than his share of dealings with anarchists. So it is no surprise that he would be at the forefront of watching out for subversive anarchist activity.

Red Ranger met up with El Caballero and heading down to downtown to find a smaller-than-expected group of so-called anarchists readying for the march. The group was getting appeared to be readying themselves with flags, banners, masks, and the like. Meanwhile, the 2 superheroes kept a safe distance and a watchful eye.

Also, Shockwave later was in contact with the ECHO duo and he provided “mobile support.”

The small group did their little protest/march. SPD had a presence for part of it, also keeping an eye on the assemblage. It lasted for a couple hours and ended where it started.

For the most part, it was just random ranting and angry diatribe. Other than a bit of traffic slowdown here and there, the group was relatively peaceful and trouble-free. As far as the superheroes were in regards to the alleged anarchists group, it was a war of words versus silence. The superheroes just watched for trouble, while allowing the group to demonstrate their 1st Amendment rights, despite how disagreeable the cluster may have been.

Though the tension was thick enough to cut with a batarang, relative peace and harmony prevailed and no major incidents were noted.

Here is the report by Red Ranger as posted on the ECHO Facebook page:

ECHO Patrol Log: 11-11-2014
Report By: Red Ranger
Roll Call: El Caballero, Red Ranger, Shockwave
Location: Westlake and Capitol Hill
Patrol Time: 12:30 – 15:30

ECHO received some intel about an anarchist protest that would be occurring in downtown Seattle today, so we headed there to make sure everyone involved was staying safe and not harming others or property, as they have in the past.

The patrol started with El Caballero and I meeting up and mobilizing into the main downtown area. Shockwave got in touch with us later and provided mobile support.

We shortly arrived at Westlake Center and found the crowd of black-clad anarchists gathering themselves and preparing for their march. We expected a much larger group to be protesting, but the turnout was only about 25-30 people. With them they had their black bandannas, Guy Fawkes masks, as well as several flags and banners including a defaced and upside-down American flag (on Veteran’s Day, no less…). We staked them out from afar for a while and did a few laps around the block, running into some other anarchist disturbers who were following us and seemed to be trying to cause trouble, shouting hateful speech and jeering at us. We didn’t stop to pay them mind and they seemed to get bored pretty quickly.

Shortly after 13:00, the anarchist mob began shouting and ran into the streets, disturbing and slowing down traffic. They proceeded to march and chant down the block and we followed, keeping a close eye on them. Soon a few SPD bike officers arrived and followed slowly behind the march, but the police’s presence faded in and out over its course.

The protest continued for another couple hours and went all around the downtown area, but the anarchists caused no trouble aside from aggressive, anti-patriotic shouting and slowing down traffic a significant amount, even draping their banners over vehicles that were stopped by their protest.

We followed the anarchist protesters all the way back to their starting point in Westlake Center and saw them pack up, bringing their little parade to a close. With no serious harm done, El Caballero and I decided to call off the patrol and we parted ways at around 15:30.

Although this kind of thing isn’t at all what one would want to see on Veteran’s day, we are happy that the protest didn’t become dangerous and that everyone was staying safe. Peace and harmony prevailed!

**((Note: I have included a video clip from my chest-mounted camera of our patrol around the anarchist protest. I do apologize for the awkward camera angle and incorrect time stamp, but I suppose I still have a few kinks to work out. — Red Ranger))**

Superhero Patrol Log for November 6, 2014

Though it’s been quiet on my page for the last couple weeks, the superheroes of Seattle have been busy.

Dragon, Red Ranger, White Baron.  Photo courtesy of Dragon.

The Emerald City Heroes Organization got in a patrol on a Thursday evening a little over a week ago. The trio of Dragon, Red Ranger, and White Baron patrolled the Capitol Hill area. They encountered one situation involving some yelling between a couple. They observed the situation from a safe distance to see if any intervention was needed. White Baron used his tech to inquire if everything was alright. Noting the situation appeared to be de-escalating and seeing no actions they though could take to help, they left the scene with some in trepidation.

There had been some tips about increased car prowls in the Harborview area. The 3 superheroes patrolled that area and took opportunity of the relative calm of the night to take some picture. They continued their patrol through “Glass Alley” and by several of the clubs on Capitol Hill. Per ECHO’s usual protocol, it was noted that both peace and harmony reportedly prevailed.

Of significant note, Dragon had return to patrolling after taking some time off to handle personal matters.

ECHO Patrol Log: 11-06-2012
Dragon Reporting From “The Lair”
Roll Call: White Baron, Red Ranger, Dragon
Location: Capitol Hill
Patrol Time: 21:30-2:30
I have been on a sabbatical for 5 weeks and finally was able to get back to patrolling.

Patrol started with Red Ranger and Dragon patrolling down Broadway, going past various clubs as they made their way south.

We had water and food on us, but very little demand for it as we encountered almost no street-folk.

We met up with White Baron at midnight, and patrolled going north on Broadway, past Seattle university, Cal Anderson Park, Glass Alley and Harborview.

We encountered a couple where the girl was yelling at her date to not touch her. I hung back to “rest” and observe the situation. When the yelling got louder Baron flipped his flashlight and voice amplifier on to ask if everything was okay. We were told by both individuals that “everything was fine”. We weren’t entirely comfortable leaving that situation but it seemed to have de-escalated on its own after that.

The view was pretty good from Harborview so we snapped a few pics and made our way back to Glass Alley and some of the clubs that were letting out at that time. We called patrol at 02:30, walked with Baron back to his vehicle. Ranger was dropped off at the Stronghold and proceeded back to “the Lair”

Aside from a little drunken yelling, Peace and Harmony Prevailed!

Trick or Treat…or Shoot!

Well past midnight on Halloween night, shots rang out in the U-District. A couple superheroes, who seem to be magnets for crime, were not too far off and soon rushed to the scene. After a marathon patrol in the U-District, Black Knight and White Baron found themselves near a very violent event.

The night began with Red Ranger of ECHO and Boomer of USID making a quick run through the U-District at around 9:30. As they night progressed, White Baron and Black Knight joined them and later on, so did Girl Scout.

A combination of college-aged antics and alcohol-fueled revelry made for a busy nice for the quirky quintet. Dealing with those antics is a story in itself, as more can be found on the patrol log posted by ECHO. The fearless five looped around the U-District several times, aiding where they saw the need. The crew noted potential drunk drivers and even removed a decorative hazard at one point.

By 2:30 AM, the parties seemed to die down and the weary superheroes thought their work might be coming to a close, however…their night was far from over. The group had thought they would call it a night, but the work of superheroes is never done.

Soon after, Black Knight and White Baron were walking north on University Way NE near NE 50th Street. Black Knight reported hearing 6-8 “pops” and started heading in that direction. They then said they heard another 6-8 “pops”.

Correctly assuming it was gunfire; they confirmed it with someone else near the scene. White Baron thought he saw the shadow of a man head west.

It was gunfire, as reported by the SPD Blotter. An argument had broken outside a bar at the 5200 block of University Way NE. Violence started with a punch, but then the punchee got a gun out and started firing. In turn, someone else got a gun out and also starting firing. In all, over 20 shots were fired and 5 people were injured.

When Black Knight and White Baron got to the scene, they saw a black man lying on the ground, surrounded by a crowd, in the alleyway near NE 52nd Street by Pizza Ragazzi. Civilians were already attending to the man.

911 was called and emergency services arrived. Black Knight said SPD had posted at several corners and cordoned off areas, and they arrived on scene with weapons drawn. Black Knight reports then medical services were then cleared to proceed.

3 shooting victims were transported to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) with non-life threatening injuries. Another victim was brought to HMC by a friend. A fifth victim was treated at the scene and released.

The 2 superheroes then met back up with Red Ranger and Boomer and stayed on scene till cleared to leave by SPD.

As reported by KOMONews.com, the suspect fled on foot. A canine unit tracked the suspect to Ravenna Park, but the trail was lost at that point.

The suspect is a black male, 25-30 years old, 5’10”, and was wearing a black beanie, prescription sunglasses, grey pea coat, and black pants. If you have any information in regards to this incident, please call SPD detectives at (206) 625-5011.

He’s not being “tricky,” but White Baron refers to Black Knight as his “lucky charm” since he seems to encounter “treats” like this whenever the 2 patrol together. The superheroes finally called it a night for the second time at approximately 3:45 AM.

Wild Night for Black Knight and company

It usually doesn’t get crazy till the end. At least when it comes to superhero patrols. That proved true for Black Knight and White Baron on a patrol on the night of Thursday, Oct. 9th into early Friday morning.

Having split into 2 teams from the rest of ECHO, the superhero veteran pair patrolled Capitol Hill. Earlier in the night, the 2 had pursued a couple of men who were allegedly messing with a fence, but the 2 alleged perpetrators escaped in a car. Other than getting a snack at IHOP, it was a fairly typical patrol night at that point. However, the patrol got a bit more interesting towards the end of the patrol.

At a construction site near 10th and Madison at around 1:30 AM, the super-duo noticed 2 men that appeared to be trying to get into the building. The superheroes recognizing the apparent trespassing, warned the men and stated they would call SPD. The alleged suspects were none too pleased and an argument ensued. The situation started to escalate with the 2 men threatening the superheroes. The 2 men advanced on the superheroes, one even throwing a bottle. Fearing for their safety, Black Knight let loose some pepper spray at the suspects.

Black Knight and White Baron then got away from the 2 men, but still stayed nearby and found the security guard that was guarding the area on another side of the construction site. The security guard called SPD and the 2 superheroes awaited the cavalry.

The cavalry arrived in the form of 4 SPD squad cars and an ambulance. The emergency services did their duty, treating the suspects and taking reports. The cops recommended the intrepid superheroes move along, and with the suspects still pretty angry, the superheroes did just that, ending their patrol shortly after.

What is stranger, and possibly funnier, is that apparently a friend of the 2 men posted about the encounter on the website Reddit.

WARNING: This is definitely not safe for work nor is it suitable for children. Reddit.com is a controversial website and you look at it at your own risk.

You can read the reddit post here.

In what appears to be an appeal for sympathy backfired as a majority of the redditors sided with the superheroes. He pretty much admits that his friends were trespassing, threw the bottle, and were more than likely intoxicated.

His main argument was that the superheroes had no business trying to stop 2 trespassers. Somehow the presence of superheroes absolved them of their wrongdoing in some sort of backwards logic, though he admitted they would have complied if cops had first approached them.

Though the lesson my have been lost on the friend of the redditor, and most likely his friends as well, it was not lost on the superheroes.

Black Knight reflected on the course of events and noted several ways that they could have handled the situation better. Specifically, he noted that he or White Baron should have called SPD much sooner, not just threatening to do so.

The takeaway is that some superheroes learn, but most redditors do not.

Superhero Patrols Logs for September 27, 2014

This weekend, the “usual suspects” of superheroes were out and about, pursuing justice in their own way.

The usual trio El Caballero, Red Ranger, and Dragon patrolled their usual turf of the U-District. Overall, the weather was fair and they did not run into any major problems. A majority of the patrol was just Dragon and El Caballero, but they later met up with Red Ranger to share information and get much needed hydration. Being a superhero is thirsty work.

They encountered what appeared to be a “protest” or some type that seemed to speak about the plight of the homeless. The ECHO members gave water bottles and energy bars as much as they could. Per usual, it was noted that both peace and harmony prevailed.

Phoenix Jones has hit the ground running from his brief respite. He has his own case trying to take down “Nook,” apparently from a gang known as the “Pirates.”

According to Phoenix Jones’ Facebook fan page, he’s been tracking a string of violent robberies allegedly done by this particular gang. The page also states that Phoenix Jones has been tracking them, using his own tips and informants.

It should be duly noted that if you have information on crime in your area, please share it with your local police department, not just your local superhero.

Phoenix Jones seemingly had a confrontation with “Nook” while Jones was “busting” his friend. It was noted that “Nook” did not have a foreign accent, which contradicts Jones’ earlier suspicions that he was part of an African gang. Though it’s unclear, it apparently happened while Jones was on a date.

Jones mentioned going through various police reports in his investigations. With no police report numbers or dates given, it’s difficult to verify his story. That said, I can neither confirm nor deny this report.

Though no statement was made on the subject, we can only hope that peace and harmony prevailed for Phoenix Jones as it did for the members of ECHO.

Here is ECHO’s report via their Facebook page:

ECHO Patrol Log: 09-27/28-2014

Report By: El Caballero Roll Call: Dragon, El Caballero, Red Ranger Location: U district

Time: 11:00pm – 2:00am

Last night’s patrol was nice and mellow. The weather was dry and pleasant, leaves beginning to fall and one can feel the autumnal change in the air.

Dragon and I began from the north end of ‘The Ave’ and worked our way south. We change our maneuvers …and tactics each patrol for security reasons and encourage others to do the same. Lots of young folks out and about, yet everyone was friendly and in good spirits.

The ‘usual suspects’ who peddle narcotics (note-ECHO has never had a problem nor have bothered people who smoke marijuana. It is now legal in Washington State anyway) were nowhere to be found, perhaps in prison?

Continued winding through the neighborhoods, streets and alleys. We briefly meet with Red Ranger for an Intel swap and thank God, some of his bottles of water!

The ‘protest’ happening next to the US Post Office, Metro bus stop, there on the SE corner of NE 43rd st and University Ave. Six tents of various sizes, colors and shapes connected together, cardboard signs with one proclaiming homelessness is not a crime. There are several people and dogs sleeping here. No sign of toilet facilities. We continue to give them water in bottles and energy bars, (though our budget in ECHO is currently just based on each members ability to donate from their own pocket).

Made the rounds with more hi-fives, head nods and some fan photos, it was a nice, peaceful night. Harmony prevailed!

Here is Phoenix Jones’ report via his Facebook Fan Page:

INVESTIGATION DAY 2

LOCATED “NOOK”

SOURCES EMAILED ME A PHOTO. RECOGNIZED HIM IMMEDIATELY. EVEN INTERVENED ON HIS FRIEND ROBBING A CIVILIAN WHILE I WAS IN PLAIN CLOTHES, ON A DATE.

THIS IS TOO SIMPLE. LIFE BARELY EVER WRAPS THINGS UP IN …A PRETTY RED BOW, ESPECIALLY NOT MY LIFE.

I SPEND THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS READING THE 14 PUBLIC POLICE REPORTS.

6 REPORTS MATCH “Black male, 5’10”, 170 lbs. Snatches open wallet or phone from victim and runs away.”

4 REPORTS MATCH “White male 5’8″ to 6′, medium build. Approaches victim and threatens with knife or blunt object. Takes valuables and forces victim to run away.”

4 REPORTS MATCH “Black male, 5’10”, 170 lbs. Approaches victim with weapon. Strikes victim or forces victim on the ground. Victim is robbed by several people who are speaking a foreign language. All victims report seeing multiple dark males running from the scene.”

AT FIRST GLANCE I THOUGHT 10 MATCHED THE “PIRATES” AND 4 WERE RANDOM MUGGINGS.

“Hey, Super NXXXXX! Go fXXX yourself and leave mine alone!” THAT’S WHAT “NOOK” YELLED AT ME WHEN I WAS BUSTING HIS FRIEND ON MY DATE. HE SPOKE PERFECT ENGLISH AND SO DID HIS 5 FRIENDS. I’VE SEEN HIM A DOZEN TIMES AND NEVER NOTICED AN ACCENT OR A WORD IN A STRANGE DIALECT. MIXED WITH THE FACT THAT THESE ENCOUNTERS WERE HIGH STRESS SITUATIONS WHERE MOST PEOPLE RESORT TO SPEAKING THEIR MOST COMFORTABLE LANGUAGE.

MAYBE I’VE BEEN FOLLOWING THE WRONG CRIMINALS?

MAYBE THERE IS SOMEONE ELSE OUT THERE. SOMEONE WHOSE M.O IS MORE VIOLENT THAN THE PIRATES., SOMEONE I HAVE TO MEET.

Superhero Patrol Logs for September 25, 2014

The streets were well protected last night. A combination of ECHO, Black Knight and friends, and remnants of the defunct RCSM were patrolling the Capitol Hill area.

The usual ECHO triad of Dragon, El Caballero, and Red Ranger started their patrol in Capitol Hill around 11:00 pm. En route to meet up with Black Knight, SkyMan, White Baron, the trio encountered an altercation between a man and a woman. They were able to seemingly intervene and the situation did not escalate further. They then met up with the three other superheroes and continued their patrol activities.

Phoenix Jones was also patrolling the Capitol Hill area with Shade, formerly of the RCSM. The duo seemingly has a pair of motorcycles that may play part in their patrols. Once arriving in the Capitol Hill area, Jones reportedly had a case and was apparently able to solve it in 20 minutes. As of the writing of this post, I was unable to ascertain what the case was or obtain any corroborating evidence. Jones may have a slightly different meaning to the term “case” than this writer.

In the middle of their patrols, the two groups of superheroes met around Cal Anderson Park and cordially posed for a few photos. The diverse assembly of superheroes was pleasant and professional, despite a number of superheroes having less than amicable feelings toward other superheroes.

The two groups of superheroes parted ways and continued their patrols, both ending safely for all superheroes involved.

Omega did not patrol and reportedly felt like a jerk because of it.

ECHO Patrol Log: 09-25-2014
Red Ranger reporting from “The Stronghold”
Roll Call: Dragon, El Caballero, Red Ranger, Sky Man, White Baron, and Black Knight
Location: Capitol Hill, Seattle

Patrol Started around 11pm in Capitol Hill, with Dragon, El Caballero and I on our way to meet up with the rest of our entourage. We quickly happened upon an altercation between some homeless citizens, with one larger, Caucasian male, appearing to be in his early thirties, throwing miscellaneous objects and attempting to assault a Caucasian female of around the same age. I ran into the situation on the double and got in between the two with El Caballero and Dragon close behind me. I demanded order and asked what was going on, but the man cursed at me and fled back to his makeshift bed in front of a nearby store. With him seemingly de-escalated, we shifted our focus to his victim and helped her gather her things that had been thrown into the street. She was grateful and we then turned our attention back to the aggressive male, questioning him on why he felt the need to attack this woman. He responded by cursing and pretending to be asleep (he was obviously inebriated) so we warned him not to lose his temper again and to keep his hands to himself. He eventually complied and we were on our way.

Patrol continued and we met up with Sky Man, Black Knight, and White Baron around 11:30 pm. We continued all around the Capitol Hill neighborhood, saw some familiar faces, and did a lot of what we affectionately call “shaking hands and kissing babies” while taking numerous pictures. We also did a small amount of homeless outreach. All in all, it was a good patrol with a refreshingly large crew; a treat we don’t often get but hope to see more of.

Peace and harmony prevailed!

Here Phoenix Jones’ report via his Facebook fan page:

Investigation: Day 1

I MEET AT Joe Shade’S HOUSE AROUND 11:30 PM. WE LOOK INTO POLICE REPORTS, MAKE A GAME PLAN AND A REDBULL TOAST TO ONE YEAR WORKING TOGETHER.

12:05 AM. WE LAND IN CAPITOL HILL AND START INTERVIEWING MY CONTACTS. PEOPLE HERE MAY NOT LIKE OR TALK TO COPS BUT THEY TELL ME EVERYTHING.

12:25 AM. WE SOLVE THE CASE, PIECING TOGETHER ALL THE INFO WE HAVE. THERE IS A NEW GANG OF AFRICANS AND STREET KIDS CALLED THE PIRATES. THEY HAVE NO LEADER BUT EVERYONE SEEMS TO MENTION ONE OF THE PIRATES BY NAME: “NOOK.” HE IS DESCRIBED AS BEING EXTREMELY VIOLENT AND INVOLVED IN THE ROBBERIES.

Side note: Ran into Cabbie and his crew. Their presence scares me. Shakes me to the core. One of them is going to die. I’ve seen so much violence — not sure I could take losing one of them. They smile when they see me. Whether they admit it or not, I’m their inspiration. Most of them are out of shape and unable to escape danger. They don’t have bulletproof gear and no radios to keep in touch if they get split up. I don’t know how Cabbie, who is completely bulletproof and in good shape and has a radio, would allow this amount of unnecessary risk.

IF YOU GO LOOKING FOR DANGER YOU WILL MOST LIKELY FIND IT. I JUST HOPE I GET THERE FIRST FOR BOTH OUR TEAMS’ SAKE.
~Phoenix Jones~

It should be duly noted that Black Knight, SkyMan, and White Baron were all active before the first reported activity of Phoenix Jones.1378202_10154616921915398_3885996923002845450_n

Superhero Patrol Logs for September 18-19, 2014

ECHO (Emerald City Hero Organization) was productive last week. The usual triple-threat of Dragon, El Caballero, and Red Ranger made the rounds a couple evenings in the U-District. The recently-returned-to-duty White Baron was able to join them on Thursday night for the patrol.

In other news, there have been unconfirmed reports of Omega, formerly of the defunct Rain City Superhero Movement, patrolling the Tacoma area.

Here are the reports from ECHO as posted on their Facebook page.

ECHO Patrol Log: 09-18-2014

Dragon reporting from “The Lair”

Roll Call: Dragon, El Caballero, Red Ranger, White Baron

Location: U district

Time: 11:00p – 2:00a

We started patrol around the intersection of NE 55th St and University Way NE. We received contact from the White Baron who let us know he was still making it to patrol, but was running late.

We proceeded into the U-district and encounte…red one of our regular street folk, that is kind of a trouble maker, we’ve seen him do erratic things under the influence of something, and the local business owners have informed us that they have told him to not hang out or enter their place business. This was around NE 47th Ave and University Way.

He explained to El Caballero that he had several police report tags (business card-sized tags with police report numbers on them).

He wanted us to escort him to his house because he feared he would be assaulted by the other people that have taken up residence there.

We followed him into Wallingford to 42nd and Latona, the location of a halfway house, or boarding house. We met some of the other residents who explained to us that he is the one known for actually assaulting people. I entered the premise after I was invited in. (Up until that point I had this weird feeling we were going to be framed for some sort of home invasion).

I followed the individual to his room expecting some sort of assault attempt would be made on him or me. He made it into his room and seemed pretty content to be there. He kept the place fairly clean so I can’t fault him there. Ranger and Cabby were bringing up the 6 in case things got weird. Once we made sure he was okay, we were contacted by White Baron in the U-district.

We now know where he lives if he causes anybody trouble or grief in the future and can direct law enforcement appropriately if needed.

We headed back from Wallingford to NE 45th and Brooklyn to meet up with him.

White Baron was in good spirits. He brought us all caffeinated gum. We learned about what gear he had on him.

We then set off on patrol. Passing by Safeway, Dante’s, Patrolling a few back alleys and again on Brooklyn and the University Ave.

Around 2a we split off from patrol and called it a night: Cabby and I departing to the north and Ranger and White Baron departing to the south.

Peace and Harmony Prevailed!

And their patrol log from last Friday:

ECHO Patrol Log: 09-19-2014

Dragon reporting from “The Lair”

Roll Call: Dragon, El Caballero, Red Ranger

Location: U district

Time: 11:00p – 2:00a

Patrol started with the observation of a suspected drug house in the vicinity of NE 65th St and 15th Ave NE. Over the weeks, we have observed enough activity there as a group to know that something funny is going on. People loading up their packs wi…th some sort of packages. Money and baggy exchange, etc. We walked by pretending to be on our way to a Halloween Party and got the address from one of the residents that was outside.

We saw strange activity going on in back alley nearby where someone was changing their clothes, and they had also started to sleep in the carport of one of the apartment buildings. We checked to see if they needed any medical help (they had a length of tubing on them that looked like they might use it to “tie off”).

We patrolled around the block to and circled back around to see if the individual was using drugs in the carport, but he had left.

The group then proceeded to Cowen Park and patrolled through, avoiding use of flashlights, and walking along on the grass parallel to the gravel trails and sidewalks.

We patrolled in the U-district, and around 52nd and University, we were stopped by group of young ladies were under the influence of something (weed?), and were invited to a party with fire-dancers. We thanked them for their hospitality, politely refusing because we were on patrol, and took pictures with people that wanted to get their pictures with us.

We came upon some of the regular dealers; our first encounter was the girl that serves as their lookout. She looked up at us as we came out of the alley, looked down the sidewalk at her friends, looked at us again, and was trying to think of something to say to distract us or warn her friends (the gears were really turning).

I then turned to Ranger and said loudly, “It’s amazing what passes for a look-out for a drug dealer these days.”

(When we circled back around a half hour later, they had left the area).

We had a quiet evening and peace and harmony prevailed.

Superhero Patrol Logs for September 12, 2014

ECHO has been busy this week.

Friday night was a slightly later patrol, yet another quiet night. The duo of Dragon and Red Ranger patrolled the U-District.

Here is their report:

ECHO Patrol Log: 09-12-2014
Dragon reporting from “The Lair”
Roll Call: Dragon, Red Ranger,
Location: U district
Time: 11:30p – 2:00a

It was a quiet evening tonight. We patrolled the U-district and received a lot of positive response from the public. We took a few pictures with various folks. We did the glamor part of the job, returning shopping carts. We burned through the bottled water quickly in Ranger’s pack. We got unsolicited hugs from the public as a thank you by some of the patrons at Dante’s.

Here is where patience comes in, it was a dead night, but at least we got ourselves out there and talked with the public.

Peace and Harmony!

Omega (formerly affiliated with the now defunct RCSM) was reportedly going to solo patrol on Friday night, but I was unable to confirm.

Superhero Patrol Logs for September 11, 2014

Last night proved to be a night full of superheroes.

ECHO (Emerald City Heroes Organization) was out early in the evening patrolling the U-District. The triple-threat of El Caballero, Dragon, and Red Ranger were out with Patrolman Y and a guest film crew. It was a fairly quiet night for ECHO, which was probably beneficial as it afforded them the opportunity to be interviewed for a film project by the crew.

Here is their report:

ECHO Patrol Log: 09-11-2014
Dragon reporting from “The Lair”
Roll Call: Dragon, El Caballero, Red Ranger, Patrolman Y, and Guest Film Crew
Location: U district
Time: 10:30p – 12:30a

We had a filmmaker and his assistant accompany us on tonights patrol. We made our usual rounds, Ranger handing out water to street friends. We did a lot of shaking hands and PR work, mostly answering questions, and a few photos. It was actually non-eventful and we did check some of the back parking areas around 42nd for car prowls. We did an interview with the crew and escorted them back to their vehicle.

Peace and Harmony prevailed!

Later in the evening a mini-reunion of super-sorts went down on Capitol Hill. Black Knight, met up with SkyMan, White Baron, GirlScout (formerly of the RCSM), and Red Ranger of ECHO pulling double duty.

This cavalcade of superheroes initially began a little before midnight with Black Knight, SkyMan, and White Baron, who came out of his semi-retirement for this patrol.   After patrolling Cal Anderson Park, they met up with GirlScout and Red Ranger. The intrepid quintet continued to patrol through the bar area, west on Broadway, through Glass Alley then looping through the bar area again. Making their way back to their parking area, the patrol ended at approximately 2:30 am. There was nothing unusual to report.
